Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza has died of heart failure, the government said Tuesday. “The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi… following heart failure on June 8, 2020,” it said in a post on its official Twitter account. An evangelical who believed he was chosen by God to rule the East African nation, Nkurunziza came to power in 2005, when he was selected by parliament. In a significant move amid nationwide protests sparked by George Floyd’s death last month, a majority of the  Minneapolis City Council has pledged to dismantle the local police department. Nine of the 13 councillors said a “new model of public safety” would be created in a city where law enforcement has been accused of racism. Anti-racism rallies have held for nearly two weeks in the United States, after George Floyd’s death in police custody. Pinned by the neck for nearly nine minutes by a white officer’s knee, the incident which was captured by a bystander’s cellphone led to an outpouring of outrage and demands for sweeping police reforms. At a rally in the city of Minneapolis, council members said they plan to invest in community-led safety initiatives instead of the police department. PTF GUIDELINES FOR WORSHIP CENTERS 1. Places of worship must comply with all non-pharmaceutical measures such as mandatory use of face mask by worshippers, hand washing spots at the entrances, hand sanitizers with at least Sixty percent alcohol content and mandatory temperature checks. 2. Worshippers are advised not to touch each other in a manner such as hugging, shaking, kissing etc. 4.  Families are advised to stay together during the worship services. 5. Church/mosque volunteers(ushers, choir, security etc.) that have underlying illnesses should not be allowed to serve. 6. The time for worship services should not be more than one hour.  7. President Buhari has nominated Okonjo Iweala for the position of director-general of the WTO.  The president also reportedly withdrew the candidacy of Yonov Frederick Agah, Nigeria’s permanent representative to WTO.  Okonjo-Iweala was the finance minister under the Jonathan administration. President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly approved the nomination of former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, for the position of director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The Cable reported that Iweala’s nomination was approved by the president on Thursday, June 4.
